With the first Enola Holmes film, which hit Netflix in the dark days of 2020, Millie Bobby Brown proved she can power an entire feature through her charisma.

The young actress blazes through a ho-hum mystery, a non-clinical character created by novelist Nancy Springer in 2006 — as the often resourceful, sometimes carefree teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes.

Whose sharp turns and simple measures really added to his talent. We didn't really have to focus on the specifics of the matter (who even had the mental energy to do that at the time?),

So we could only enjoy Brown's performance, all smiles, darting eyes, and cheeky side spectators.

The film wasn't particularly inventive, but its star was.

That first film followed a very green Enola as she investigates the disappearance of her headstrong mom (Helena Bonham Carter), and the film largely draws on its protagonist's naivete.

Enola Holmes 2 finds our heroine opening her own detective agency, with the hope of one day matching the success of her brother Sherlock (played by Henry Cavill).

But in the end, it still thrives or dies on the allure of its teen star. It is mostly fluff, even if the shine is a bit off this time.
